A Call for Help

Hello readers. I promise not to do this often/regularly, but I need your help.

You see, I’ve just gotten selected to go to a NASA event at the Ames Center in California this Friday the 26th. As you know, it is my ultimate dream to work at NASA, so of course I want to go. It’d be a great step for my career and my personal validation. However, I just spent all my expendable money going to a NASA event in Houston that I was selected for (either I have excellent luck or the people at NASA like me – I’m pretty happy with those options).

SO. Don’t worry, I’m not asking for your money (unless you’re a fabulously wealthy individual who wants to subsidize a young scientist’s dream career, that would be okay with me); instead, I’m asking for your advice on how to get other people’s money. I know that writers and researchers and various other people can get flown out to these sort of events or expense them or that sort of thing. So what I want to know is, how do I get someone to fly me out to California? Or, are any of you pilots or something who can get me there on the cheap?

I wouldn’t ask, but I’m desperate. I’m a college student and I simply can’t afford to be spending that kind of money twice in two weeks – but I really really want to go to this event, and I feel it’s the next step towards realizing my dream.

I can be reached by comment, on twitter @DownHereonEarth, or by e-mail at cranel@carleton.edu. I would greatly appreciate any advice that you can offer.

UPDATE: Everyone told me to try crowdfunding it. So that’s what I’m doing. If you can help, even a little bit, please go to my Indiegogo campaign hereΒ http://igg.me/at/sentLeahtoNASA/x/4011940Β to help me fund this trip. Thank you all so much for your feedback and your help! If you have more suggestions, please continue to sent them my way!
